Before it does, they must prepare to make the most of the upswing when it takes hold. About the Author

One of the country's most informed economists, Alan Beaulieu is a principal of the Institute for Trend Research where he serves as President. Since 1990, he has been consulting with companies who have a domestic and global perspective on how to forecast, plan, and increase their profits based on business cycle trend analysis. Alan is also the Senior Economic Advisor to the NAW and the Chief Economist for HARDI. Alan specializes in applied research regarding business-cycle trend analysis, growth-cycle trend analysis, and the utilization of cyclical analysis at a practical business level. He is a featured speaker at corporate and trade association meetings both in the U.S. and overseas and makes about 150 personal appearances each year. He has spoken to thousands of business leaders in manufacturing, healthcare, distribution, real estate, construction, and technology forums. Prior to joining ITR(R), Alan operated and was a partner in several firms, where he developed great practical expertise. From the early 1980s to the early 1990s, he was also an adjunct faculty member at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH, a position he loved and that prepared him to get business leaders to understand and apply business cycle economics. Pronouncements from the Institute for Trend Research and/or Mr. Beaulieu have appeared in/on: the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Knight Ridder News Services, Business Week, Associated Press, The Washington Times, CBS Radio, CNN Radio, Sirius talk radio, KABC, NPR affiliate WLRN and numerous other outlets. Brian Beaulieu has been an economist with ITR(R) since 1982 and its CEO since 1987. He is also Chief Economist for Vistage International and TEC, global organizations comprised of over 13,000 CEO's. At ITR, Brian has been engaged in applied research regarding business cycle trend analysis and the utilization of that research at a practical business level. The thrust of the work is to provide companies with the means to anticipate economic changes before they happen in order to maximize growth and profit potential. For the past 26 years, he has been giving workshops and seminars across the US and Canada to thousands of business owners and executives in a wide range of industries. Prior to joining the Institute, Brian was an economist in Washington, DC for the US Department of Labor where he worked on the health care component of the Consumer Price Index. Brian's views have appeared in/on: the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Barron's, USA Today, CNBC TV, FOX Business TV, Knight Ridder News Services, Reuters, CBS Radio, the Washington Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution, KERA TV, Canadian TV, and numerous other outlets. “Alan and Brian Beaulieu are rare and valuable economists.  Their analyses and prognoses are easy to understand, useable by business leaders, and (best of all) correct and prescient.  They guide us from macro-economic trends to our individual action plans.  And with their intelligence, humor and clarity, the Beaulieu brothers make our journey enjoyable and rewarding.”

“There are changes coming, let’s get ready for them, and let’s be as profitable as we can be.  The methods ITR® employs are understandable and more importantly, applicable at the company level.”
Ron Schreibman, Senior Vice President-Strategic Direction, National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW)

“Alan Beaulieu is a highly-regarded economist who successfully predicted the latest recession and housing downturn almost three years before it came to pass. His years of study on how to spot business cycles, the development of leading economic indicators, and management objectives during the business cycle have been of invaluable help to Parker Hannifin and to many other companies.
Marwan Kashkoush, Executive Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Operations Support, Parker Hannifin Corporation

“Having integrated Brian Beaulieu’s economic modeling and business cycle forecasting process into our business planning process we were able to forecast the last recession, plan our strategy, and thrive through the downturn.  We are now preparing for the upturn”
Tom Gendron, Chairman and CEO, Woodward Governor Company
